Lego V-8 And Six-Speed Sequential Gearbox Are Awesome

So you want to get to better know the inner workings of a V-8 engine, and, perhaps, how a sequential gearbox works? Well, you could always build your own. Out of Legos.
That’s exactly what Huib van der Hart has done, and both creations are amazing—all the more so when joined together.

In the video above, the pneumatic Lego V-8 runs at high rpm, revving through its range with ease and precision. In the video below, the engine runs at constant speed, illustrating the various gears of van der Hart’s sequential gearbox build (which also features neutral and reverse gears).

Best of all, you can make them yourself thanks to van der Hart’s instructions. Once you’ve done that, you can move on to making a real, fuel-burning desktop engine.
