Thermite Welding Is The Awesome Way They Join Railroad Tracks

todrlThermite welding or exothermic welding is used all around the world to join long sections of continuous railroad tracks because it’s a fairly straightforward process which doesn’t require much skill to execute. The two engineers build a sand mold in a crucible around the perfectly cut railroad track pieces, then set the thermite on top, and light it with a magnesium stick. The rest of the fiery process works by itself, until it comes time to remove the mold and crucible, then file down the edges into smooth joints.
